Most of us try to do our part to help other and the world, and I love when companies do the same, especially when it involves the health of children. Walmart and Pampers have teamed up to donate $200,000 to Children’s Miracle Network in June 2015.
One in 10 kids in North America is treated by a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital each year, whether they suffer from common childhood afflictions like asthma and broken bones, or fight bigger challenges like birth defects or cancer. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provide comfort, treatment and hope to millions of sick kids. Member hospitals treat 16,000 children in emergency rooms daily and provide surgery for 97 children every hour. Member hospitals provided $3.4 billion in charity care for children in 2012, and this is why it’s so important to team up to support a charity like the Children’s Miracle Network.
We received care from 2 different Children’s Miracle Network hospitals, Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin, Tx & Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, Tx, for different children over they years and love the care and attention they received at each. While our visits weren’t for a life threatening illness there are many children who aren’t so lucky.

Meet Dylan…
Dylan is 5 and was helped at Children’s Specialized Hospital for a Right Hemiparesis.
A few days shy of her 2nd birthday, Dylan underwent a colonoscopy where polyp was removed. During the procedure, the unthinkable happened: Her colon was badly damaged and she suffered severe blood loss. It was soon discovered that a blood clot had traveled to her brain and caused a stroke, resulting in hemiparesis, affecting the use of half her body.
Dylan was then referred to Children’s Specialized Hospital, where she had to relearn how to stand, speak and eventually walk. This required intensive physical, occupational and speech therapy.
Known for her strong will, Dylan has made exceptional gains in her strength and control in just a few years and is now running and jumping. She’s expected to make continued improvements and wears foot braces to assist with alignment and gait mechanics.
Dylan is very playful, curious, full of energy and wins everyone over with her contagious laugh.
CMN Hospitals funds helped purchase some of the equipment in the therapy gyms where Dylan works to improve her motor skills.
Meet Maverick…
Maverick is 5 and from Wyoming. He is being treated at the Children’s Hospital Colorado for Noonan Syndrome, Full Tracheal Rings and Chronic Lung Disease.
Maverick has seen his fair share of challenges in his short life. While still in utero, doctors diagnosed him with tetralogy of fallot, a rare, complex congenital heart defect that affects normal blood flow through the heart.
Three weeks after entering the world, Maverick suddenly stopped eating and was rushed to Children’s Hospital Colorado. August 2009 brought his first open-heart surgery, where doctors discovered full tracheal rings. Later he received a g-tube, a c-pap, mechanical ventilation and a second open-heart surgery, among many other treatments and dozens of additional surgeries.
Though Maverick will be a lifelong hospital visitor, he remains in high spirits. In fact, he calls his vent “Goose,” referring to dynamic duo Maverick and Goose from 1986’s Top Gun, proving he doesn’t let his conditions keep him down. Those around him feel blessed to know him and cite his upbeat attitude as a lesson to live each day to the fullest.
CMN Hospitals funds helped pay for Maverick’s care providers and also helped purchase the vital equipment he needs for a chance at a normal life.

Preferably sooner rather than later, your child will need to regularly visit a dentist. This is so said experts can ensure that your child isn’t suffering from dental hygiene or growth problems, which can often cause pain, infections, and sometimes serious health concerns. However, it is a very common issue for a child to be afraid of this visit to the dentist.
Even if you opt for the top dentist in your area, one with an absolutely fantastic demeanor around children, it can be hard for children to separate the worries of their imagination from the reality in front of them. This means that as a loving parent, giving them a comfortable push in the right direction can be an astonishing and confident means of getting them the help they deserve.
Allowing your child to remain brave at the dentist will not only allow them to get the treatment they need, but it will help them learn to deal with fears that might be irrational, generally improving their bravery over time. After all, a child is never helped by being overly sheltered, but can truly grow by being exposed to things that they might have otherwise feared (at least in a healthy, constructive manner).
Let us see where you, as a doting parent, should begin:
Make The Dentist Human
Do not refer to the dentist as ‘the dentist’. This can make them seem like a cold professional, almost non-human. Of course they are not, but in the mind of a child, it’s that difference that can, ironically, make all the difference. It’s important to be realistic regarding how children think. If they remain ‘the dentist’ then they could be anything, as cold and as worrying as the scariest tools in their disposal. A child might imagine a blank room where you will not be around to protect them.
Instead, you may choose to say ‘today we’re going to pay Mr. Johnson a visit!’ Of course, they might have a doctorate, in which case it’s important to get the name correct. However, as soon as you put a name to a person, it seems as though they’re going to be cared for. ‘To see the dentist’ is often a worrying phrase also, suggesting that perhaps there is a problem that has caused this impromptu trip to come up that day. Instead, saying ‘Mr. Johnson is going to make sure your teeth are healthy and grow nice and strong!’ will designate said medical professional as an ally, as someone who only cares for the health and wellbeing of your child. You may not think a young mind able to make a massive distinction out of these things, but you’ll be surprised.
Your tone will communicate plenty of information, too. A happy, buoyant tone, almost as if this is a celebration, will show them that there’s nothing to fear because this is a positive experience. You might even talk about how nice the Dentist is, and how you trust them. If you used to attend the same practice as a child yourself, mention that fact. It will show them that there’s truly nothing to worry about.

With 4 growing boys it’s not always easy to please everyone or fill their bellies. So when were in the mood for good food and entertainment, we head over to GattiTown!
Never Been?!
GattiTown’s layout is different from other family pizza & game places. There’s a large buffet, three eating areas (one quiet, one with kids shows playing on the screen and another with sports or other adult oriented movie/show), and birthday room are completely separate from the gaming/play area.
When you enter the building you are in line to pay for the buffet. Even if you’re not there to eat, you have to pay to get in. The prices are very reasonable (ages 3 and under are free).
The buffet consists of a salad bar, soup bar, baked potato bar, bread sticks, cheese sticks, spaghetti, alfredo, mac-n-cheese, at least ten different kinds of pizza, brownies, banana pudding, three types of dessert pizza, various fountain drinks, water, and tea.
Also you get a card instead of the tokens like at Chuck E. Cheese. When you buy your buffets, you select the amount of money you wish to put on the card(s). Game prices ranged from $0.25 to $2.00. You swipe your card at each game and the amount is deducted from your card. Most of the games gave out tickets based on your scores. When you are done playing, you feed your tickets into the ticket eater machine and it counts them. After you’ve fed in all of your tickets, you swipe your card and your number of tickets is saved onto the card. You can add more money to the cards anytime you wish & continue to add up tickets until you are ready to spend them.
