You can allow unrestricted Web browsing for their children and set how long they’re allowed to use the tablet by total time, hours of the day and app category for up to three different user profiles. Since my boys are little I have restricted their web browsing to the LeapSearch browser only. I love that there are pre-selected videos, sites and images that are kid friendly, including sites like PBS & Disney.
The LeapFrog Epic, is designed for children ages three to nine, & comes with an interactive and customizable home screen that users can also play with. It allows the boys to access LeapFrog games, apps and e-books as well as Android games and apps designed for children that don’t feature in-app purchases or third-party ads. Which is great, because I can’t tell you how irritated they get with ad popups and in-app purchases on other tablets.
The tablet runs on the Android 4.4 operating system and features a quad-core processor, seven-inch multi-touch capacitive LCD screen, front and back camera, video recorder, 16 GB of memory and a battery that lasts for six hours.

Along with over 2 million people I tuned in Friday night to watch the iconic Bruce Jenner sit down with and discuss the rumor that had been going around for months now. What we all got was so much more than putting media speculations to rest.
I’ve never seen someone more vulnerable and sincere than Bruce was Friday. I teared up within the first few minutes because I could only imagine how difficult this was for him to do not only in front of the largest audience anyone’s ever had to “come out” to, but because you could tell he was also finally able to accept himself and get this weight lifted off that he has carried around for over 4 decades.
He didn’t waste anytime getting to the point and what everyone tuned in to hear…“For all intents and purposes, I’m a woman, People look at me differently. They see you as this macho male, but my heart and my soul and everything that I do in life — it is part of me.”
As the interview continued it broke my heart to hear him say that he was afraid to tell anyone because he didn’t want to disappoint people. He’s battled with this for 59 years because he was afraid to disappoint his family, friends and his fans. As a mom I couldn’t help but think of my own children and how I would NEVER want them to feel that way.
I was thankfully raised to love everyone no matter their “color”, age, income, sexual preference, looks or what ever else people can judge you on…We try to raise my boys the same way, and try to discuss todays issues with them so they are not blind to what goes on in the world (when they are old enough to understand of course). They have a gay uncle and two gay aunts who they absolutely adore. But it dawned on me, they probably had no clue about transgender.
I sat down with them Saturday and explained what the definition of a transgender is, that it is NOT a mental illness, has nothing to do with sex, and about all the hate crime that goes with it. I told them that I would hope that they would never be involved in making fun of or discriminating against someone who feels they were born in the wrong body. My boys know that they can come to us for anything and that we will listen with open ears and open hearts. Straight, Gay, Transgender..it doesn’t matter they are still our children and I will stand by them no matter what.
I hear people say this or that about what the bible says..okay but doesn’t it also say to not judge. We should be teaching love, & acceptance not hate…if we all did our children wouldn’t go through life feeling “different” or like they are a disappointment.
I bawled my eyes out when it got to the interviews with his kids I love how accepting and supportive they are. Then for his mom to come on and show her support was amazing. I wish him all the best, hope he’s finally happy and hope that it is a turning point for acceptance. After all it’s their body, their lives how does what someones else feels, thinks, looks affect you?

Brownie Brittle has been enjoyed by our family for a few months as we had found it in World Market and thought we would give it a try. Brownie Brittle sent me their NEW 1oz Single Serve Bags which features Paddington – hitting theaters January 16th – in Chocolate Chip & Salted Caramel, which started my inspiration for the “English” toffee I’m about to share with you.
They also sent me the Toffee Crunch which is a great side snack to the Salted Caramel Brownie Brittle English Toffee.
If you have kids, chances are you’ve heard of Paddington, but just in case you haven’t check out this fun and adorable trailer for the upcoming film…
Now the recipe you’ve been waiting for!
INGREDIENTS
Toffee
1 cup butter 1 cup sugar 2 tablespoons water 1/8 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
8 ounces chocolate bark
Topping
1/4 cup pecans, finely chopped 1/4 cup Brownie Brittle, finely chopped 1/2 tsp Corse Sea Salt
Caramel Drizzle
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 350F. Toast the chopped pecans on a baking sheet in the oven for 6 to 8 minutes, or until fragrant.
With heavy-duty aluminum foil, form a 10-inch square shell with 1-inch high sides. Place the foil shell on a baking sheet, and set aside.
In a heavy saucepan, cook the butter, sugar, water, and salt over medium heat until the temperature reaches 305F (hard-crack stage), stirring occasionally (watch closely after it reaches 290F because the temperature will increase rapidly). When the mixture becomes dark golden brown, immediately remove the pan from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract. Pour the mixture into the foil shell. It will spread but may not reach the edges of the square. Skore toffee with back of knife to help the chocolate stick. Cool at room temperature for 45 minutes, or until hard. Wipe off any access liquid that may have puddled on the top.
Melt the chocolate according to instructions on the side of package. Spread melted chocolate over the cooled toffee, and sprinkle with the pecans, & Brownie Brittle pressing lightly to set into chocolate. Drizzle with caramel & sprinkle corse sea salt. Let set at room temperature 1 hour, or until the chocolate is set. Break toffee into pieces. Store covered at room temperature for up to 1 month.

LeapTV Still Making Learning Fun!

You know my boys love their video games, and my little guys are still too young to play most of the Wii and PlayStation games so the LeapTV is perfect for them…and guess what?! They learn as they play!! We just received 5 new games from LeapFrog that I want to share my thoughts on…you know, with the holidays coming up and all!
DISNEY FROZEN: ARENDELLE’S WINTER FESTIVAL
I played this game with my five-year old who just started kinder and we both enjoyed playing it. The math starts out really simple, recognizing numbers, then putting them in order and finally equations. If you have 2 battery operated controllers 2 kids together. It does get more difficult becuase it grows with your child. I found the on-screen motions to be pretty good, quick response and accurate. There are 5 games and all are completely different. Your child can Ice Skate with Ana & Elsa or throw snowballs with olaf. My little guy was enjoying his play and didn’t even realize that he was still doing “school work”. I thought the product is great for pre schoolers, especially when the weather won’t permit outdoor play. The game teaches math, shapes but also coordination and logic.
DOODLECRAFT STARRING MR. PENCIL
I had my 13-year-old play along with my 5-year-old, just so there was someone who could help out if he needed it. They both really enjoyed playing and collaborating with each other on designing their world. My 13-year-old even compared it to the infinity sandbox. They were painting and building buildings around the town…they had fun “paintballing” the school. This was definitely a fun game for them to play and I love that they worked together to get the job done!
BLAZE AND THE MONSTER MACHINES
My 9-Year-old and 5-year-old played this one together and really enjoyed racing against each other. Everything seems to be a race with them, so for them to be able to actually race….and learn at the same time was a win-win! I’m telling you it got pretty competitive. I like this game because it teaches science, technology, engineering and math. All subjects on which most kids don’t enjoy learning otherwise.
DISNEY PRINCESS: CINDERELLA AND RAPUNZEL
My boys got quite the giggle “dressing up” like a Disney princess and snapping pics. They played connect the dots with stars by finding letters in the mix of letters and numbers. I see this being a really enjoyable game for a girl, but my boys didn’t play long on it..it just didn’t appeal to them. I do see the value in the reading skills and hope that my 5-year-old will give it another chance.
LETTER FACTORY ADVENTURES
This game is meant for 3-5-year-olds. My 5-year-old started kindergarten this year and is perfect for him! We’ve watched the movies for years and were excited to get to interact with the letters and characters. This game is perfect for teaching him his letters and sounds. There is a ton of repetition with the letters and sounds. The train picks up all the stray letters on the way to their respective stations. The game shows upper and lower case letters and makes their sound or says their name every time you point your pointer at it, or pop a bubble with that letter in it, or sort the letter correctly. On the way to its station, each letter gets three different games. By the time they get to the letter’s station they should have a good idea about that letter and the sound it makes! The kids also get to move and use their bodies to play which is an added bonus. My little guy really likes this game and I know it’s going to help him out this year with school and his speech.
Over all we really enjoyed these games and the boys can’t wait to play again!
