A Marvelous Introduction: Doctor Strange Review

Marvel films hold a special place in my heart, and “Doctor Strange” was no exception. Despite my lack of comic book background, I’ve found myself drawn to the intertwining storylines, riveting action, and engaging characters Marvel is known for. “Doctor Strange” carries on this tradition and takes it a step further into the realm of the mystical and magical.

A Mystical Journey: The Story of Doctor Strange

My anticipation prior to the screening was laced with a hint of apprehension, given the complexity and mysticism of the Doctor Strange comics. However, the film turned out to be a spectacularly crafted, easy-to-follow story that served as an exciting introduction to this unique Marvel character.

Characters and Their Complexities

Doctor Strange, played brilliantly by Benedict Cumberbatch, is a genius neurosurgeon with a Tony Stark-level ego. After a tragic accident leaves him physically scarred, he embarks on a journey to Nepal, seeking a miraculous cure. Along the way, he encounters a range of intriguing characters, including the Ancient One, played by Tilda Swinton, who introduces Strange to the mystic arts.

The Villain and the Battle

Things take a darker turn when Strange finds himself thrown into a mystical battle against Kaecilius, a former student of the Ancient One. Kaecilius, portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen, steals a forbidden text to cast a dangerous spell, and it’s up to Strange to stop him. The battles are visually stunning, with worlds twisting and turning in ways that keep you on the edge of your seat.

The Director’s Touch

In my opinion, director Scott Derrickson did a commendable job bringing his favorite comic to life. The film is a perfect blend of humor, emotion, and suspense, with a strong performance by Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange.

Conclusion

“Doctor Strange” is a fantastic addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I’m excited to see what the future holds for this character. It’s a film you don’t want to miss, and it serves as a great lead-in to the upcoming “Thor” and “Infinity War” films. Remember, as the Ancient One said, “It’s Not About You.”

  • 5 Netflix Series To Watch If You’re A Binger #StreamTeam

If you’ve got the time, Netflix has the series. Whether you’re looking for crime dramas, family friendly, or comedy specials you’re sure to find something to love. Ever since the first binge four years ago, parents and kids have been able to define their TV schedules on their own terms. Thanks to Netflix, cartoons aren’t just for Saturday mornings, and Friday isn’t the only family movie night. Families are watching when and where works best for them.
Comedy for breakfast? 34% of Netflix viewers choose to start their day with the cheesy jokes of Fuller House as the sun rises. And while school may be out at night, learning is at an all-time high on Netflix with documentaries being watched 24% more often after midnight. No matter how your family watches throughout the day, Netflix puts you in control so anytime is prime time. Here is a small list of what I think are binge-able shows you won’t be able to walk away from. Put on your snuggie & fuzzy sock, make some tea, sit back and enjoy!
    The Crown
Based on an award-winning play “The Audience” by showrunner Peter Morgan, this lavish, Netflix-original drama chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II from the 1940s to modern times. The series begins with an inside look at the early reign of the queen, who ascended the throne at age 25 after the death of her father, King George VI. As the decades pass, personal intrigues, romances, and political rivalries are revealed that played a big role in events that shaped the later years of the 20th century.
    Orange Is The New Black
Piper Chapman is a public relations executive with a career and a fiance when her past suddenly catches up to her. In her mid-30s she is sentenced to spend time in a minimum-security women’s prison in Connecticut for her association with a drug runner 10 years earlier. This Netflix original series is based on the book of the same title. Forced to trade power suits for prison orange, Chapman makes her way through the corrections system and adjusts to life behind bars, making friends with the many eccentric, unusual and unexpected people she meets.
    13 Reasons Why
Newcomer Katherine Langford plays the role of Hannah, a young woman who takes her own life. Two weeks after her tragic death, a classmate named Clay finds a mysterious box on his porch. Inside the box are recordings made by Hannah — on whom Clay had a crush — in which she explains the 13 reasons why she chose to commit suicide. If Clay decides to listen to the recordings, he will find out if and how he made the list. This intricate and heart-wrenching tale is told through Clay and Hannah’s dual narratives.
    The Last Kingdom
As a child, Uhtred witnessed his father being killed and the Saxon army defeated by invading troops. Danish warlord Earl Ragnar captured Uhtred and raised him in a Danish camp alongside fellow captive Brida, a sharp-tongued girl. Years later, Uhtred is a valiant warrior who is dealt another tragic blow when his home is deliberately set on fire, killing his surrogate family, including Ragnar. Now exiled — alone except for Brida by his side — he vows to avenge Ragnar’s death and reclaim his homeland. But, he must choose between his birth country and the people who raised him. If he is going to help birth a new nation and ultimately recapture his ancestral land he must walk a dangerous path between both sides.
    The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Rescued after 15 years in a cult, Kimmy Schmidt decides to reclaim her life by venturing to New York, where she experiences everyday life with wide-eyed enthusiasm. On a whim, she rents a room from Titus, a gay wannabe Broadway actor, who makes ends meet as a street performer in Times Square. The unlikely pair find they’re well-suited to help each other out, with Titus reintroducing Kimmy to modern life, and her providing him with the inspiration that you should never give up. Together they’ll make it through whatever life throws at them.
We don’t really have a streaming schedule…it’s usually whenever it strikes our fancy. And we all have our own favorites to binge! Some other favorite binges are: The Ranch, Longmire, Bloodlines, Supernatural & March Polo.
