As you already know, last Thursday I got to walk the teal carpet & screen the new Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales at the LA Premiere in the Dolby Theater. The Pirates franchise began 13 years ago…yes, it’s really been that long…and fans have been hooked ever since!
Ever since it’s announcement I have been anxiously waiting for the release. What adventures would Jack Sparrow Captain Jack Sparrow go on this time? Already defeating Dead Men, Davy Jones’s locker, the East India Trading Company & Black Beard…what was left? After the teaser trailer, it gave a tantalizing clue…Dead men that are searching for Jack and enlist Henry to help.
This film really felt like it was returning to the original with a strong female, dead men, pirates, & romance.
Johnny Depp returns to the big screen as the iconic, swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow in the all-new “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” a rip -roaring adventure that finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazar, escape from the Devil’s Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea—notably Jack.
Let’s dive into my top 3 reasons to see Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales!
A Strong Female Character
This tale brings in Carina Smyth (played by Kaya Scodelario) who is a very strong and intelligent woman driven by math and science. She has been accused of witchcraft because she studied astronomy & horology. She’s very determined to complete a mission & doesn’t believe in supernatural tales…that is until she has a run-in with the dead men and ghost sharks.
Something For Everyone
Like any other pirates, this film doesn’t lack in the action & adventure department. There are plenty of sword fights, chases & daring escapes. You also continue to see plenty of the supernatural stories that Pirates has been known to take on. This film also includes some heart & a bit of romance that at points will have you wiping away the tears as Henry (played by Brenton Thwaites) sets out to find a way to break his father’s (Will Turner) curse & free him from the Dutchman.
Jack’s Back Story
Everyone loves a good back story, it tells you how everything came to be. Why do the dead men want to find Jack so badly? Why is he the way he is? Thanks to a computer generated “youthification” process, Johnny Depp was able to play Jack in his younger years.
My boys are very excited to see this film and have been wanting me to answer some questions…I don’t want to spoil it for them so they will just have to wait for the 26th to see it! If you’ve enjoyed the other high sea adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow this one will not disappoint! Plenty of new faces, amazing cgi & a few surprises that will leave you speechless.

I attended an all-expense-paid trip by Disney, all opinions are 100% my own.

Growing up we weren’t the wealthiest family on the block, there were many time where I wished I had someone else’s home or things…and while I couldn’t have everything, my mom always made sure I had the important things! No I’m not talking food, or a roof over our head although I truly appreciate all that too..I mean love and undivided attention..lessons on life, and being the artistic type, she always managed to keep crafty things around the house for me to get creative with. I always had a birthday party, and never went without on a holiday. So I guess you can say I was pretty lucky! Looking back I don’t know how my parents managed it all on such little income, but my mom made everything possible on our budget so we didn’t feel left out of anything.
Then the day came where I became a mother and she became a grandmother. I remember it like it was yesterday. My husband and my mother slept in a chair and the small couch in a room that was around 30* because I was “so hot”. I remember lots of encouraging words and lots of pacing the floor. Then my little Nick was born and all of our lives were changed. I wasn’t just responsible for myself anymore, I had a tiny little man to look after, I knew I couldn’t depend on my mom, and I was okay with that..she wasn’t just my mom anymore, she was a grandmother and ready to take on the roll of spoiler. I count my blessings that I was able to share that moment in my life with my mother..and two more births after that.
Now, living 4 hours away from “home” I get to share my days with my four boys, who may make days difficult at times, but the snuggles and giggles make up for it all! I never imagined I would miss my mother so much..and go back several times a year to stay with my parents for a visit. I couldn’t imagine my life without any of my boys and feel so blessed to have them & my mother in my life.
