Cooking Light First Foods -Review/Giveaway-

Many parents these days are deciding to make their own baby & toddler foods. I’ve never myself done this, i thought it was a silly fad that would pass…we’ll i guess the jokes on me, since its hotter than ever with food processors being made specifically for making baby food.
Since the boys are older now i haven’t really thought about baby food in a while, but I’ve been curious about all these products, and sites that are for this “fad”. I recently received Cooking Light First Foods Cook Book, and immediately started to flip through it, and check out all the recipes just seeing what all goes into making, storing, and nutrition facts. This book can follow your little one from infant’s first foods to the toddler stage.
I loved all the tips, and recipes. They start off giving you the understanding of nutrition, and why making your own baby food is a good idea. Any mom would have an easy time following the recipes. They also give you sample daily menus, and discuss food allergies, and how to avoid them. The book is broken down into sections

UV radiation endangers an unprotected eye in ways that can lead to vision impairment. Just small amounts of intense UV exposure can cause short-term problems, ranging from irritating to overtly painful. The following symptoms may indicate over-exposure to UV.

Infants & Children get 3X the annual adult dose of UV radiation and their eyes are more vulnerable. About 25% of an individuals lifetime exposure to UV radiation happens before the age of 18! If you notice any of the following your child should be taken in for evaluation by their Dr.:
Red Eyes – Skin around the eyes is red and appears to be sunburned
Extreme Sensitivity to light – constantly tearing
Disrupted Sleep – Feeling that eyes are burning, itching, or scratchy

Why is UV eye protection SO important? Over time, the cumulative effects of sunlight can lead to eye diseases and conditions later in life. While some damage can be reversed through surgery, other conditions, like cataracts and macular degeneration, may result in permanent vision loss. It is never too early or too soon to protect your children’s eyes from UV exposure. Now that you know what to look for, what can you do to help your little one and yourself?
Limit outdoor time between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when the UV radiation is strongest. Sometimes this isn’t an option and thats when a good pair of UVA/UBV Sunglasses come into play!
Have your child wear their UVA/UVB Sunglasses anytime they are outside, sunny or cloudy, the UV rays still come through on cloudy days!

Routine, Routine, Routine! Every time you head outdoors put them on, make sure they see you put yours on. Plastic sunglasses are inexpensive and come in many colors and styles. Also look for Polycarbonate lenses if your child is rough or into sports they are more able to withstand rough play. Look through the sunglasses before you buy them..see if they distort what your child is looking at, I know I wouldn’t want to walk around in a distorted world! We used Baby BanZ & KidZ BanZ when little man was smaller, because they have a comfortable strap to hold them on his face. Now that he is a little older he loves his stylin sporty Foster Grants. I love the wrap around style so I know it protects his eyes from all angles.

Did you know: 1 in 5 veterans return home from conflict and live with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). My grandfather was one of these vets. It’s very traumatic for the returning vet as well as the families. Meet Bill Jones, Chief Warrant Officer 2, U.S. Army & Wounded Warrior Project ® Alumnus.
From an outsider’s perspective, Bill Jones has an inspiring success story. From his own perspective, Bill simply sees himself standing on the shoulders of those who have helped him over the years. Now he wants to help others as much as he can.
“Wounded Warrior Project ® (WWP) impacted my life exponentially,” says Bill. “I went from being very unstable to being able to overcome the triggers of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and feeling empowered for a better life.”
Bill served in Iraq and Afghanistan and like many of his fellow service members, he never had time to process the realities of war.
“You go from one mission to the next, where the next traumatic event happens, and then to the next event, on and on,” says Bill. “You can’t deal with it, so you don’t. You bury it. When you eventually come home, it all surfaces.”
Bill says WWP Project Odyssey ® helped him transform from hopeless to hopeful. The teambuilding approach of this outdoor, rehabilitative retreat gave him the confidence he needed to heal and motivated him to get involved with the WWP Warriors to Work ® program. Through Warriors to Work, Bill was chosen from thousands of applicants as a camera operator with the Def Leppard and KISS tour. Traveling with the band was a dream come true for Bill, but there were unexpected challenges and benefits to being in a concert environment.

“It forced me to deal head-on with my fears of crowds and loud noises,” says Bill. “The prolonged exposure helped me re-train my mind to understand they were not a threat. None of this would have been possible without the Warriors to Work program.”
Bill is quick to point out the positive effects of his recovery extend to his family and beyond.
“As I improved in my healing process, my family and I have grown closer together. The support has been incredible. Through Wounded Warrior Project, no warrior should ever have to give up.”
Today, Bill is dedicated to helping other warriors who are living with PTSD. He serves as a WWP Peer Mentor and manages a personal Facebook page called “The Prisoner Within – A Look into PTSD.”
